Drive to benefit Providence Pregnancy Center (PPC)
Our Baby Item Drive to benefit Providence Pregnancy Center (PPC) will begin on May 23. PPC of Scranton supports pregnant women in crisis by providing essential items such as diapers and clothing, referrals to services, emotional support, educational opportunities, counseling, mother support groups, and by operating Casa de Maria, a maternity home for homeless pregnant women.
We are collecting diapers (all sizes), wipes, infant care items, and new clothing (sizes newborn–4T). Please place your donated items in the Pack ’n Play located in the back of the church. Your generosity will directly support mothers and babies in need. To learn more about PPC, visit ppcscranton.org.

Sometimes called “the Great,” or “the Everything” Pope, this multi-faceted man changed history the of the Church and the world! As we plan to unite with him as our patron saint, mark your calendar now and plan to join us for Discussions on St. John Paul II with Father Tom at 6:30 PM in St. Anthony’s Church on May 26, June 2, 16, & 23!
SIGNS OF THE TIMES (& STATUES!)
Our new parish will purchase two statues of St. John Paul II, our new patron saint. One will be a light-weight statue to be carried in the annual procession during the Festival, and the other will be a life-size outdoor marble statue that will stand in front of our primary worship space.
Each of our churches will also have a new sign that will identify the parish as well as the church building (St. John Paul II Parish - St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, St. Anthony of Padua Church or St. Rocco Church).
Of course, the new statues and signage comes with a cost. If you would like to help defray the cost of helping to identify our parish and churches, please place your donation in an envelope marked “St. John Paul II Statue” and send it to either office or drop it in the collection basket at any Mass.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A LITURGICAL MINISTER?
We are in need of altar servers, lectors, and extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist for all Masses in both churches. Please contact your parish office to let us know of your interest, and we will schedule training sessions!
ATTENTION, YOUNG ADULTS!
All young adults who have finished college or trade school or have entered the job market should no longer be receiving children’s envelopes. Once a young adult has turned 21, he or she should call the office and register as an adult parishioner. Even if you continue to live in your parents’ home, you should still be registered as an adult parishioner on your own.
ATTENTION, FUTURE BRIDES AND GROOMS
Please contact the church as soon as possible when planning your wedding! Too often, couples want to book the reception hall before doing anything else. Diocesan policy is that the couple must meet with the priest at least 6 months before a contemplated marriage. And it happens at times that the sacrament cannot be celebrated on the date that has been chosen, either because there is already a wedding scheduled that day, or the priest is unavailable, or there needs to be more time for the sacramental preparation. Before any date for a wedding can be given, the couple must meet with the priest, so please be mindful of this before booking any reception hall!
