CAEP R1.1The Learner and Learning
InTASC Standard #2: Items in this section demonstrate the candidate’s use of a variety of strategies to determine differences and ensure inclusive learning environments. Candidate explains how the artifacts provide evidence of meeting the standard.
(Narrative): Mini-lessons are brief 10-15 minutes activities that introduce a strategy to the class. The lesson attached below is a writing lesson that introduces punctuation to a third-grade classroom (exclamation point, question mark, period, and comma). Implemented within the lesson is a read-aloud, student created anchor chart, worksheet, and class discourse. These strategies demonstrate visual learning, linguistic learning and auditory learning.
(Reflection): Incorporating a variety of learning styles into a lesson is essential for inclusion as no student learns the same way. This not only keeps students engaged, but feeds off of student strengths and provides countless opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding in a way that makes sense to them.
