(Narrative): The Warren Woods Public School District is comprised of a diverse student body that brings variety of culture and lifestyles to the community. I began working for the Warren Woods Public School Distrcit in December of 2022 as the media center aid. This postion requires me to manage book checkout for the entire school. In early March, an email was sent out to ALL staff informing educators about Ramadan and included considerations that will help accommodate practicing students.
(Reflection): As a woman of Christian faith, I had limited prior knowledge of Ramadan. Additionally, as an individual who currrently works in the public school system and a future educator, I do value knowledge of different cultures and religions in the community. Learning more about student values and lifestyles creates a classroom community of trust and security. This email was not a handout or note excusing these students from class, but instead included various ways to support muslim students during this time and helping them to still be successful regardless of their situations.
