Cremation and Burial
Did you know? The Catholic Church’s attitude toward cremation has changed dramatically over time. The Church has changed its stance saying Resurrection is possible regardless of the method of final disposition. The process of cremation does in hours what nature does over hundreds of years. Cremation is an alternative method of burial. When it comes to burial and existing graves, most cemeteries allow for the burial of up to four cremated remains in an existing grave. What this means is this: if you have a family plot of 6 graves and each grave has a full body in it, you can place 4 cremated remains on top of those graves. A family plot of 6 graves that appears to be full can now accommodate an additional 24 urns. Families do not have to purchase additional graves. This method of burial may not work for everyone. The Cemetery Committee felt it was important for you to know that you do have options.
