Embodied Intelligence & the Future of the Performance
Dr. Heidi Boisvert will discuss current empirical research methods and insights emerging from the Limbic Lab, which employs biometrics, machine learning and predictive models to isolate effective narrative ingredients across various mediums of expression. Boisvert will share how this research informs the creation of bio-adaptive, networked dance and mixed reality theatre performances that interrogate how our bodies carry intergenerational trauma, are surveilled, controlled, and spun out of balance by our dependence upon technology and speculate on future bodies.

Function Approximations and Allucinations: We don't know how the AI gaze does what it does
Neural networks, for example LLMs and GANs, are a triumph of applied mathematics that evade full theoretical understanding of their function. We know how to make them, but we don't really know how they do what they do. Demonstrating this with a well known AI training example, I briefly explore a few examples from the art world wherein artists are exploring this question.
