Living in an Apartment Complex

A significant aspect of living in an apartment complex is being jointly responsible for those parts of the complex where ownership is shared. These aspects include such items as gardens and landscaping, complex carparks, and the buildings' common property, including facades, foyers, hallways and garbage collection areas - to name a few.

Where we have both shared and individual responsibilities there is a need to understand what they are and our obligations to abide by the rules governing the Complex.

The ACT Government sets out in legalisation (Unit Titles (Management) Act 2011) how these issues will be managed, by whom, what functions are covered, what responsibilities are held, and how to resolve disputes. The legislation can be found at Unit Titles (management) Act 2011.
