How are traits inherited?

Vocabulary:

Phenotype: The physical characteristics of an organism

Genotype: the genetic codes an individual carries

Homozygous Dominant: a genotype of TT

Homozygous Recessive: a genotype of tt

Heterozygous: A genotype of Tt

Dominant: a trait that overpowers another; if there is a dominant gene in the genotype, the organisms phenotype will be dominant as well

example: Tt and TT both show a phenotype of tall as a plant

Recessive: a trait that must be present in two copies to show up in the phenotype

example: tt is the only possibility to show the phenotype of short
