Eighth Annual Northwest Santa Clara Valley MATHCOUNTS Chapter Competition was very successful!
From across the Cupertino, Sunnyvale and West San Jose area, 17 private and public schools and about 170 middle school students came together and compete at Peterson Middle School on Saturday , February 28th, 2026, for the Northwest Santa Clara Valley Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition, the only in-person math competition of its kind!
Miller Middle School won the first place of team, Lawson Middle School took the second place, Hyde Middle School got the third place, Tessellation placed the fourth place and Challenger School Sunnyvale placed the fifth place.
William Tao from Miller Middle School won the first place of individual. Justin Kim from Miller Middle School took the second place. Daniel Li from Lawson Middle School got the third place.
In the afternoon, up to 4 students from each school entered the unofficial countdown round. In front of more than 500 audience , the fastest correct answer of a group of 8 was rewarded and advanced to the next round.
Jingxuan Bo from Stratford Blackford Middle got the first place , Joshua Wang from Hyde Middle School got the second place and Arthur (Yuxin) Chang from Miller Middle School got the third place.
Based on the result from the Written Competitions, the top three teams, Miller Middle School, Lawson Middle School and Hyde Middle School, and three individuals, Max Wang from Miller Middle School, Jingxuan Bo from Stratford Blackford Middle, Minkee Cho from Peterson Middle School, got advanced to the State competition , which will be held at The Harker School Middle School Campus on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
