HOW OUR ORGANIZATION CAME ABOUT

Luz Orellana implemented this organization at CSUF in 2017. When she became interested in audiology, her work and volunteer experience were related to speech. She mentions that she was lucky enough to meet Dr. Grijalva who helped her gather many new experiences in audiology before having to pursue a Master’s or Au. D. After speaking with other students, she found this was not the case for everyone. Many students became interested in audiology later in their undergraduate or post-bacc career. After consulting with Dr. Grijalva, they decided students could benefit from learning more about audiology earlier. This way, students would have more time to volunteer and gain valuable experience that could be beneficial to their graduate applications.

THE PURPOSE OF OUR ORGANIZATION

By starting an undergraduate chapter of Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) at CSUF, we hope to generate student interest, educate the public, and advocate for the field. By creating a community of students who are interested in a career in audiology or related fields, those who are interested in applying to graduate school will have other students to collaborate with and find support.
