The Coalition for Northeastern Student Organizations of Color

What is the CNSOC?

The Coalition for Northeastern Student Organizations of Color, or CNSOC as we like to call it, is a collection of Northeastern's leading student organizations geared towards students of color. They run the full spectrum of Northeastern's Cultural & Spiritual community, and each organization brings a unique perspective and pool of resources to further our fight for collective liberation. Through the CNSOC, the Caucus strives to center and promote the work of existing organizations at the forefront of our efforts to achieve collective liberation by exchanging strategies and developing shared goals. The CNSOC is administered by the Secretariat, which works to lessen the burden on each Member Organization so that they may continue with their own programming and service initiatives without constantly having to fight for the basic rights and dignity of their members and communities. The Secretary-General is charged to immediately employ all available Caucus resources to assist CNSOC Member Organizations in their regular operations, to support their growth, and to strengthen their overall impact at Northeastern and beyond.

What are the benefits of joining the CNSOC?

There are several benefits to joining the CNSOC, namely:

Sovereignty of Student Orgs

The CNSOC and the rest of the Caucus Community work extensively to ensure what we call the "sovereignty of student orgs." What we mean by this is that every organization in the CNSOC is only held accountable for something they vote yes on. This means your organization will never be forced into any agreement of which you don't want to be a part. This is a very different model from traditional student governments, but one we believe is essential to maintain in our community of organizations seeking to end oppressive rule against Communities of Color and our otherwise oppressed kin.

Access to Caucus Resources

The Secretariat carries out the directives of the General Assembly and the CNSOC. Organizations on the CNSOC get access to all Caucus resources, including our marketing tools and social media platforms by working directly with the Secretariat. You will also gain access to our extensive network of Students of Color represented in the General Assembly, and our Alumni Network, for all of your programming, marketing, mentorship, and other organizational needs.

Right to Serve on Caucus Committees

All Students of Color in a CNSOC organization shall gain expedited membership into the General Assembly. This gives Students of Color in your organization the right to serve on our Caucus Committees and to present Resolution Proposals to the General Assembly.

Amplified Voice

By choosing to join the CNSOC, your student organization has taken a significant step in amplifying the voices of students of color in your community and throughout the Northeastern ecosystem. Too many of our concerns and experiences as People of Color are shared experiences, but the current University structure intentionally silos us away from each other so that we cannot effectively organize to combat racial injustice. The Caucus brings together Students of Color and the organizations on campus that represent us together to fight as one unified front in the face of institutional bias and oppression.
