Bag Mask Valves

Description:

A bag mask valve is a device that is generally used in emergency situations and is use to move air into the patients lungs. By applying a pressure to the bag attached to a valve over a patient's mouth, this product creates positive pressure which pushes air into the lungs of the patient. Hypothetically, the bag and valve could be used to push air through the NED device to observe how the pressure differences are affected with the NED present.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

The bag mask valve is capable of producing changes in volume similar to the function of the lungs.

This is a low cost and easily available method.

Cons:

A mechanical force is required to produce the pressure changes and in turn could be highly variable based on experimenter or trial.

The bag mask valve is not easily adapted to the NED device.
