Are you a student, or parent of a student, interested in enrolling into Northern High School's NNDCC program? Get answers to the most frequently asked questions below.
Do cadets have to attend morning drill?
The answer is no, but it is highly suggested. Attending morning drill allows cadets participate in competitions.
What is Band app used for?
The Band app is a way to communicate information within the unit.
Does joining the unit mean you have to enlist?
The answer is no, you don't have to enlist or join the military because you take this course. This course is meant to build leadership and other helpful skills.
Is physical fitness mandatory?
Yes, the unit regularly does PT in their class periods and gives quarterly tests to cadets. These tests are required to be passed by the end of the year for the cadet to progress within the unit.
Do I have to cut my hair?
Yes, the unit follows the national regulations for NJROTC and cadets are required to follow these uniform regulations, this includes hair regulations.
Do I have to wear a uniform?
Yes, every Thursday cadets will be required to wear a uniform for a grade.
What is the difference between NNDCC and NJROTC?
NJROTC receives funding from the Department of Defense for uniform expenses and Instructor salary. If a school does not qualify to hold an NJROTC, they can establish a NNDCC, which follows the same standards and curriculim as a NJROTC. The only difference being that NNDCC receives funding from the school and other sources.
Will I have to pay for my uniform?
No, all basic uniform expenses will be covered.
What are NNDCC competitions?
NNDCC competitions are drill, athletics, and academics focused competitions held at across the units area. These competitions focus on building teamwork and creating a fun and competitive environment for cadets. These competitions take place throughout the early school year and last from the early morning to the mid afternoons.
Is there field trips?
Yes, some examples of these would be the Marine Corp Museum, overnight stay aboard naval vessels, Air Force One Hangar, Arlington National Cemetery, Naval Academy, and the White House.
Will this program help with college applciations?
Yes, one of the programs primary purposes is to show your leadership abilities and strengths. This program is very beneficial for applications for colleges, jobs ETC.
Be enrolled in grades 9 through 12 at Northern High School.
Be physically qualified to participate fully in the physical education program at Northern High School.
Maintain acceptable standards of academic achievement.
Maintain acceptable standards of conduct.
Comply with specified personal grooming standards.
Students will attend their Naval Science class period once per day.
Students will wear the Navy Service Uniform once per week.
Students will often participate in military drill, physical fitness, and team building activities in class during the week.
Students can expect to participate in field trips during the week and community service projects and team competitions on some weekends.
