Description of the days

On the 18th of March 2019 started our Nordic action days in Ymmersta school in Espoo. We got visitors from Denmark and Iceland. The day began with building the Nordic market exhibition. The exhibition was open on schooldays for students to visit. There were books, flags, brochures, desing etc. representing every Nordic country and even a volcanic stone from Iceland.

The students were invited to a live representation from Nordic countries. The visitors from Iceland and Denmark presented their countries and shools. Norway was presented by students from 5th grade (born in Norway) and Sweden by a Swedish teacher. The representatives from Denmark, Iceland and Finland read a moomin book to students, each of them in their own language.

The workshops were planned to 4th and 3rd graders. The actions in the workshops were:

1. Iceland – runic writing (hosted by the Icelandic visitors)

2. Sweden – Swedish language (hosted by a swedish teacher)

3. Denmark – Easter poems and crafts (hosted by the visitor from Denmark)

4. Norway – A Norwegian song, video and Kahoot (quiz) (hosted by students)

In addition to actions with students Nordic visitors were jobshadowing lessons, meeting the public libraries and for exampel experimenting Finnish sauna.

The schedule was tight, but we are really grateful for being part of this whole experience.
