1st Meeting: Dresden (2019)

The first network meeting took place from 21 October 2019 to 23 October in Dresden. The main goals of the meeting were:

• to present updated project sketches to the group and the expert guests,
• to establish three collaborative research groups ('Historical Englishes', 'Registers', 'World Englishes'),
• and to arrive at a theory of non-canonical syntax that works as the foundation for the rest of the network's duration.

Day 1 (22 October 2019)

After the introduction, the expert guests Betty Birner and Marianne Hundt provided overviews of how they understand non-canonical syntax and their ideas on open questions and issues. The rest of the day was devoted to presentations of the network members.

Day 2 (23 October 2019)

The second day served to establish a joint approach towards non-canonical syntax. After some very fruitful discussions, the network and the expert guests arrived at an approach that can be applied to all network projects after some modifications. We finished the first meeting with a general discussion of the next meetings and our publication plans.
