Staff Recommendations:
612 Bouny Street is a ca. 1920 Bungalow Craftsman-stylized two-story, two-family residential building in Algiers Point. Between 2007-2011, the building was outfitted with wood window screens. Currently, the wood window screenings are deteriorated and require replacement. The applicant is petitioning the Commission to replace the wood window screens with custom aluminum window screens. The applicant has expressed that they would prefer to replace the existing screens with wood screens to match but the combination of cost and inability to hire someone to complete the work has forced the alternative. Per the HDLC guidelines, the installation of screening at doors and windows of any material other than wood requires the review and approval of the Commission. Staff recommends that if the window screens are to be removed and replaced that the screens be replaced in-kind to match the existing screens.
