Staff Recommendations:
In January 2021 a non-structural renovation permit (#21-01813) was opened for the installation of roof-mounted solar equipment at 3424 St. Claude Avenue. The submitted proposal did not meet HDLC guidelines for roof-mounted equipment and was subsequently returned for revision. An HDLC Certificate of Appropriateness (CofA) was not issued. However, based on Google Street-view, it is clear that the solar equipment was installed as of November 2021. Based on the visual prominence of the left-side roof slope, the installation would have required the review and approval of the HDLC NO Commission. Currently, the installed equipment is visible from St. Claude Ave. and Gallier St. The current iteration of the solar panel arrangement adheres to the HDLC guidelines. Because the roof-mounted equipment has been installed, the work will need to be granted retention. Staff recommends retention of the current configuration of the visually prominent solar equipment at 3424 St. Claude Ave.
