Description: Product review for installation of Aeratis louvered shutters at side elevation windows at a Contributing rated, one-story, single-family residential building.
Staff Recommendations:
Constructed in ca. 1860, 910 Clouet Street is a one-story, frame double shotgun residence with reserved Greek Revival trim and detailing at its front façade. An application submitted under permit (#23-26635) requested the installation of Aeratis shutters at the side elevations. The Aeratis shutter is a PVC composite material that has not been reviewed or approved by the HDLC in full control districts prior to this proposal. Per the HDLC Guidelines, shutters at the front façade, where existing before, must be maintained as wood. However, in the recent past, the HDLC has reviewed and allowed the installation of non-wood shutters, such as aluminum, at side elevations. The Aeratis product was reviewed and recommended for approval by the HDLC Architectural Review Committee (ARC) at the October meeting. This recommendation is seconded by Staff as the Aeratis shutters accurately replicate the size, detail, and materiality of wood shutters. This review is for the application of the fixed and operable Aeratis louvered shutter only. In addition, the product will follow the HDLC shutter Guidelines and only be approved at locations as determined by the Guidelines and Staff.
Recommendation: Approval. Aeratis louvered shutter installation in full control districts.
