Description: Request to remove original stucco and install weatherboards at the front façade of a Contributing rated, two-story, single-family building.
Staff Recommendations:
FEMA survey research indicates that 2037 S Carrollton was likely constructed between 1890 and 1905. The two-story building retains it's original massing and architectural detailing, save it's wooden balustrades that were replaced with metal. A common feature in the revival style buildings constructed during this period was the use of eclectic details. The gables at 2037 S Carrollton are finished with highly textured stucco. The applicant would like to remove the stucco and replace it with a wood decorative element. The applicant has the original plans that specifically call out the gable finish to be stucco. The current stucco finish is more than likely original, if not carefully maintained coat. For the aforementioned, reasons Staff recommends denial of the removal of the original stucco.
Recommendation: Denial
