Description: Demolition of more than 25% of the primary facade at a Contributing rated, commercial building. 

Staff Recommendation: 

FEMA research dates the construction of 712 Adams from 1885-1895. At some point in the mid 20th century the primary façade was altered with the removal of the presumptive original openings, the addition of a single picture window and the addition of non-structural brick cladding. Interior exploratory demolition was completed and did not show any evidence of the framing of the original openings. The new elevation has two windows in lieu of a door/window combination, wood weather boards, and retains it's side entrance. The two window solution was used due to the shallow depth of the sidewalk and to not impede on the public right of way. While this would not be considered a true restoration it is an improvement to the overall context of the building. For the aforementioned reasons, Staff recommends approval.
