Permit #: 23-32299-HDLC
Description: Installation of highly visible roof mounted solar equipment at a street-facing roof slope at a Contributing rated, single-family residential building.
HDLC Guidelines:
Section 5, Page 10 of the Guidelines for Roofing.
Recommendation:
Roof mounted solar at street-facing slope - Denial of proposed installation.
Staff Recommendations:
1200 Piety is a ca. 1885 frame Creole Cottage located at the corner of Piety and Marais Streets. The building retains several historic details, but the overall massing and form were unsympathetically altered with a ca. 1950 rear addition. The proposed solar layout includes roof-mounted solar equipment at the street-facing slope of the rear addition roof. Per the HDLC guidelines, the installation of street-facing roof-mounted equipment is not permitted. The proposed solar array would be highly visible from Piety and Marais Streets as well as other viewsheds throughout the surrounding block. In keeping with past recommendations, Staff recommends denial of the solar installation at the Marais Street facing roof slope. Staff is glad to work with the applicant to find a suitable location for installation at the interior facing roof slopes provided they meet the HDLC guidelines.
