Description: Demolition of more than 25% of the primary facade of a Contributing rated, one-story, single-family residential building.
Staff Recommendation:
FEMA research dates the construction of 1331 Nashville from 1885-1895. The building first appears on the 1909 Fire Insurance Map in 1909. The original primary façade was a two bay single shotgun with a front porch and a side bump out at the rear. On the 1951 Fire Insurance Map the building appears to have retained it's front porch and massing with the exception of a rear corner addition. At some point in the later part of the 20th century the front porch was encapsulated and the entry sequence was moved to a porch that is located proud side bump out at the rear. The current proposal would open up only half the front porch encapsulation and encapsulate the rear porch.
Neither condition at the front façade or rear bump portion of the building are original. However, further alteration of the building would alter what is ultimately the history of the building's evolution architecturally. For the aforementioned reason, Staff recommends denial.
Recommendation: Denial
