Watercolor "Texture" Paintings
PAST DUE:
Signed Intro Letters
Zentangle Name
Coffee Cup Design
7-Value Scales
Monochromatic Self-Portrait
Tessellation Drawings
Students will wrap up their study on the "Elements of Art" by learning about one final element: Texture. They will create mixed-media, watercolor-based paintings that will start with observational drawings they will sketch using a fake flower of their choice. They will then paint and use pen to further create texture on their two-dimensional drawing, finally adding their flower into the final composition, to complete the project.

2026 Project Archive
Projects descriptions are moved to this area, after the due date has passed. Late work is still accepted! Please communicate with Mrs. Lynch, if you need more time for project completion due to illness... or if you're just really taking your time to submit great work! Full credit may still be available, on a case by case basis.
As students learn about SHAPE, as an Element of Art, they will create tessellating shape stencils to use in a final drawing that will feature their shapes in interlocking and repeating designs.
In this project, students will learn about COLOR and VALUE (two Elements of Art), as they create a 7-value scale using a primary color, black, and white paint. They will then use those shades to paint a self-portrait with the help of a black & white reference photo, transferred to the final drawing surface.
Graded portions of the project will include:
7-Value Scale Swatches
Class Critique Participation
Final Self-Portrait (Self-Assessment)
Coffee Cup Design
Students will design a coffee cup sleeve, using their chosen drawing media and considering how the sleeve will appear on the final three-dimensional FORM (an actual coffee cup), as they learn about form as an "Element of Art."
Zentangle Name
In this project, students will use Canva to select a font and create an enlarged outline of their name. They will then learn about positive and negative SPACE and use meditative "zentangle" style LINE drawing with pen & ink to fill in the negative space only.
Line and Space are two "Elements of Art" that students will learn about, within this project unit.
