What's an ATC?
Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are small, handmade artworks, typically 2.5 x 3.5 inches (the same size as baseball cards), created to be traded - not sold.
This multiple phase project will introduce Artist Trading Cards (also known as ATC's) to students. They will create concept sketches for a unified card "back," which they will create using a linoleum block print they design and print themselves. The "front" of their cards will be unique multi-media style drawings/collages that will represent each student's individuality.ย
When their sets are complete (ten cards total), they will have the opportunity to trade withย their classmates and keep their new set of cards as a reminder of their 2026 Drawing & Painting class and all the talented artists in it!ย
Drawing & Painting
2026 Project Archive
Projects descriptions are moved to this area, after the due date has passed. Late work is still accepted! Please communicate with Mrs. Lynch, if you need more time for project completion due to illness... or if you're just really taking your time to submit great work! Full credit may still be available, on a case by case basis.
As students continue to connect Art + Music, they'll learned about Jamaican mural art and three modern Jamaican painters:
Ras Daniel Heartman
Albert Huie
Omari Ra
Students will cretae large works of art inspired by Jamaican murals and answer the critical thinking question: Why do many communities promote and support mural art?
Drawing & Painting students will learn about four artist who were greatly influenced by jazz:ย
Romare Bearden
Piet Mondrian
Jackson Pollock
Jean-Michel Basquiat
They will also learn about some of the art movements those artists worked in, including ACTION PAINTING, using both the artists and the movements as inspiration as they spend two days working at the easels to create EXPRESSIONIST work.
Drawing & Painting students are going back to the basics, learning about two of the seven elements of art -- shape and color. After reviewing these fundamentals, students will paint an acrylic art piece that uses these concepts to achieve successul compositions.
Students will design a coffee cup sleeve, using their chosen drawing media and considering how the sleeve will appear on the final three-dimensional form (an actual coffee cup).ย
"Future So Bright" Grid Portrait
Students will select a self-portrait to recreate as a pencil drawing using a grid method. This method will help students draw what they actually see, not what they think they see.ย
In completing the pencil drawing, students can avoid the eye area (we'll learn more about drawing eyes, later in the semester). Instead, students will later find sunglasses to add over that area. The sunglasses can be realistic in size and shape or can be exaggerated to create a more stylized final product.
