SCHOOL PROCEDURES
SCHOOL PROCEDURES
All students are expected to be at school by 8.30am. The school day begins at 8.40am and concludes at 3.05pm. Regular and prompt attendance is essential if progress is to be satisfactory. Each student’s safety requires that she does not delay when travelling or walking between home and school. Supervision of the playground is provided from 8.20am.
TERM 1: Tuesday 31 January - Year 7 (half day in the morning)
Wednesday 1 February - Whole School
Term ends - Thursday 6 April
TERM 2: Wednesday 26 April - Friday 30 June
TERM 3: Tuesday 18 July - Friday 22 September
TERM 4: Monday 9 October - Thursday 7 December
Please note that the above dates are subject to change in accordance with scheduled staff days.
Parents must explain their daughter's absence via the Compass Portal. Parents will receive an SMS notification regarding their daughter’s absence if no Compass entry is entered.
For all planned leave, an application for leave must be sought from the Principal. These forms are available on the Compass Portal.
It is important for students to arrive at school on time, by 8.30am so that they can access their lockers before the start of the school day. If a student arrives after the 8.45am bell for Period 1 she will be marked as having a partial absence in the Roll. These absences are recorded on school reports.
If there is a genuine reason for an occasional lateness, the reason must be explained in a note from the parent and given to either the Student Office when she arrives at school or the homeroom teacher on the following day. Parents are asked to notify the school in advance if a delay in attendance at school is anticipated (eg because of a doctor/dentist appointment).
If a student is late 3 times for any reason in one term, the student may be placed on an Afternoon Detention (3.15 - 4.15pm).
Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds during school hours. Permission to do so is only granted for a serious reason and in response to parent’s written request and telephone call on the day. Before leaving the school the student must report to the Student Office in order to be signed out. The usual procedure is that parents collect their daughter from school.
Any student who becomes ill, or is injured at school, must report to Sick Bay or her Year Coordinator. If she is too ill to return to class, her parents will be contacted and the student will be permitted to go home accompanied by a parent. If her parents cannot be contacted and the injury or illness requires prompt attention, we will take the appropriate action and notify parents as soon as possible.
We ask parents to notify us of any medical condition which requires medication or special care while the student is at school. Parents are also asked to give the College a work or emergency phone number where they can be contacted, if required.
All uniforms and personal possessions should be clearly marked with the student’s name. Lost property is stored in the Student Office.
Students must have their phones switched off or on flight mode during the school day from 8.45am to 3.05pm. If a student needs to make a phone call during the day they are to see their Year Coordinator. Mobile phones should not be visible during Homeroom, class time, or walking from class to class, unless the student has been instructed to take out their phones for educational purposes by the teacher. Students found to have mobile phones not on flight mode or visible during class can expect to have their phone confiscated immediately. This also applies to the use of headphones attached to the mobile phone, in which case both the phone and headphones will be confiscated. The teacher who confiscates the phone will place it in a clearly labelled envelope and hand it in to the Student Office. If it is the second time a students’ phone has been confiscated then an after school detention will also be issued in addition to having their phone confiscated. It is the responsibility of the student to go to the Student Office at the end of the day to collect their phone from a Year Coordinator. Any phones not collected will be stored in the Student office in a safe until the student retrieves it.
If a student breaches the guidelines for a third time, students will have their phone confiscated and it will not be returned until a meeting can be arranged with parents and student to put into place a management plan. If a student refuses to hand over their mobile phone when asked it will result in an in-school suspension until a meeting can be arranged with parents.
Recess and lunch are a valuable opportunity for face-to-face socialising. Phones are not to be used during these times. The same consequences will apply if a student is found to be using their phone.
This policy applies to phones during ASP, college events and excursions. The College recognises that camps and retreats are a time where students are able to develop meaningful relationships with themselves, each other and God. Phones will be collected at the start of all camps and retreats and will be returned to students at the conclusion of the event. If a student needs to use their phone, a written request must be provided by parents in advance and, if approval is granted, permission from the supervising staff member is to be sought before the use of any phone.
At the beginning of each year, students are assigned lockers. When they commence at Domremy, students will be assigned a locker and will be required to bring a small combination lock to ensure their locker remains secure.
Students are expected to secure all their belongings and valuables in their locker. This includes parts of the uniform not being worn during the day such as when doing PDHPE. Most lockers are large enough to fit the school bag. Students are not allowed to carry their school bag between classes.
The locker remains the property of the school and each student is expected to keep her locker free of rubbish, clean it at the end of each term and empty it at the end of the year. Possessions left in lockers at the end of the school year will be disposed of by the school.
Students are discouraged from bringing valuables to school. Domremy accepts no responsibility for any loss, theft or damage to valuable items should a student decide to bring them to school. If they do bring them, then they should ensure that they are secured in lockers or left in the Student's Office. Valuables should not be carried or left in school bags during the school day.
The College Canteen is open to students on each school day before school (8.20am) for breakfast, at recess and lunch. The canteen ceases operating 5 minutes before the end of each break (i.e. on the warning bell).
Students may order their lunches daily: sandwiches and rolls with popular and nourishing fillings are available as well as hot foods during winter. In addition, the students have a choice of fruit, fruit juices, flavoured milks, bottled water, yoghurt and a variety of ice creams and ice blocks. All food is nut-free.
Throughout a student’s enrolment at the Domremy College, the College, Sydney Catholic Schools and the Archdiocese of Sydney may from time to time take and use photographs, video or sound recordings to use in College, SCS or Archdiocesan publications, productions and presentations. This includes for promotional purposes in print, digital, online websites and social media of the College, SCS, or the Archdiocese.
Such material is often used to record student participation at the College and at College events, and at SCS or Archdiocesan events; to celebrate student effort and achievement; and to positively promote the College, SCS and the Archdiocese or events held by them.
At the start of each student’s enrolment at the College, parents/guardians and students will be provided with a SCS Publication/Media Consent Form which is to be completed, signed and returned to the College. This is kept on the student’s file. Consent may be changed by parents at any time in writing.
