COMMUNICATION CHANNELS
COMMUNICATION CHANNELS
At Domremy College we value communication between parents and classroom teachers. Our experience is that the open dialogue provided by consultation with subject teachers has resulted in the needs of the student being best met. If there are questions about your daughter’s learning in a particular subject, we encourage you to contact the class teacher directly. If you prefer to discuss the matter with a Coordinator, the Coordinator will arrange a meeting with the Year/Subject Coordinator, the Teacher and the Parent/Student. The table indicates who you should contact for assistance.
Students and parents can access contact details for the below contacts as well as all their teachers via the Compass Portal.
The College has a Domremy Parent Representative Group. The DPRG meets once a term with the Principal and members of the College Executive and is made up of one or two parent members from each Year level. Members of this group provide a parent voice on issues concerning the College Community such as parent communication initiatives, parent education forum ideas, information sharing, reviews of College initiatives as well as opportunities to seek advice and feedback. Key issues arising from these meetings are circulated to parents through the College newsletter.
To be kept up-to-date on all school events Parents should access the College Google Parents’ Calendar. Parents should create a google account and then send their email address to Qun Li at qun.li@syd.catholic.edu.au requesting access to the Domremy Parent Calendar as well as the Year 7 Assessment Calendar. Calendars can also be viewed through the Compass portal.
Our College website, is updated regularly and contains current information about the College and Latest News stories. The College also regularly posts on College social media accounts about student participation at the College and to celebrate student effort, achievement and the like. Links to our website and social media accounts are on Compass under School Favourites.
Each week parents are emailed The Parent Weekly. This is a communication template which ensures there is easy access for parents to administrative reminders, policy reminders, upcoming events and general school information. General announcements for the whole community are in the top section of The Parent Weekly, with the second section devoted to year-specific notices.
Parents are asked to make a special point of reading The Parent Weekly, together with the fortnightly Newsletter, as these are our main form of regular communication with parents.
Domremy College provides parents with access to our online student management portal - ‘Compass’. This gives parents the ability to log onto the system and view school reports, merit awards, attendance data, sport, activities and other details in relation to their daughter.
Early in their year of commencement at the College, parents will be emailed login details as well as instructions for accessing Compass. For any troubleshooting please feel free to contact us at info@domremy.catholic.edu.au.
Parents and students are also emailed Notifications via the Compass Portal. These, along with The Parent Weekly and the fortnightly Newsletter are the main forms of communication with Parents.
Parents are emailed the College Newsletter, La Verité, fortnightly on a Friday. The newsletter usually contains a reflection from the Principal followed by information to parents about upcoming College events and outings as well as College policies and procedures. It contains curriculum news, reviews on past events, excursions and sport as well as special sections, e.g., from the College Counsellor.
Parents are asked to make a special point of reading the fortnightly Newsletter, together with The Parent Weekly, as these are our main form of regular communication with parents.
Every morning students meet with their Homeroom teacher who provides the students with daily information and guides them through a series of pastoral care activities. This is an opportunity for students in the Homeroom to get to know one another and discuss pastoral matters.
The daily announcements inform students of any special details for the day such as immediate timetable changes or upcoming events, for instance, sports training and fundraising. Any daily changes are automatically synced to Compass and students are encouraged to check Compass each morning to see room changes and other daily changes.
An electronic report is prepared at the end of each semester and is available via the Compass Portal.
Teachers may also complete student progress reports at any time a teacher or parent feels concerned about a student’s academic progress or behaviour.
Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews are held following the semester reports at which parents and students must attend. It is important for good communication between staff and parents that every attempt is made to attend these interviews.
Parents are encouraged to make an appointment through Compass to see teachers on these day/evening Parent/Student/Teacher interviews. A news feed item will be posted on Compass outlining when parents can make appointments through ‘Conferences’ on the Compass portal.
For further information on how to book your interview you can contact the Student Office.
