Domremy College is now a “Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) environment for new students for both senior and junior students. The College chose a BYOD model over mandating a designated device as we know that many families may already have a laptop, which would suit our specifications.
The College has prepared a BYOD guide to support parents/guardians in choosing an appropriate device for their daughters. There are two tables in the memo - ‘Device Selection’, which provides a selection of possible devices and their suitability for various age groups and ‘Device Specifications’, which should be used to determine if a current or desired device will meet our standards.
Please note that the College:
will not accept any responsibility for agreements (e.g. purchase, or after purchase warranty agreements) entered into by parents with any third-party,
does not insure students’ laptops.
Fault diagnosis, warranty claims and repairs for BYOD devices are the responsibility of parents and carers. However, in the event that parents need to return devices to suppliers for repairs, the College has a small number of school owned devices (Chromebooks) that can be temporarily loaned (if available) to students while their own device is being repaired. Any loan of a school device requires the payment of a deposit and parent/carer agreement to the College’s computer loan policy.
Please view the following link for details on the Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) BYOD policy. https://sydcatholicschools.nsw.edu.au/2016/03/28/byod-implementation-in-sydney-catholic-schools-policy/
As well as containing important legal provisions, this agreement also reminds students of their responsibility to manage the charging of their computer so it is always brought to school ready for a full day’s use. Some charging facilities are available at the College, but students should not rely on these.
Sourcing Your Computer
The College does not have a preferred supplier for laptops and parents are encouraged to:
do their own research on prices and after sales support available and then purchase the laptop from the retailer they feel offers the best overall value,
purchase a Macbook if their daughter is considering doing Visual Arts or Music as her preferred elective,
if necessary, seek independent advice before purchasing the device.
ICT Support Available at the College
The College’s ICT support officer (located in the library) will assist students with:
connecting to the internet,
connecting to the wireless,
connecting to Google Drive,
Chrome browser and printing.
