Water-efficient appliance usage
Description:
National Chiayi University has implemented a comprehensive campus-wide Water-Efficient Appliance Replacement Program across all campuses. The program covers teaching buildings, administrative offices, student dormitories, sports facilities, and public service areas to maximize water conservation performance. Traditional manual faucets and conventional flushing systems have been systematically replaced with water-saving equipment to reduce water consumption and promote sustainable campus operations.
Automatic sensor faucets and low-flow taps are installed in all washstands to minimize unnecessary water flow.
Sensor urinal flushers have been adopted in all men’s and accessible toilets.
Two-stage flushing systems are fully installed in women’s toilets to provide user-controlled water efficiency.
New buildings and renovated facilities are required to incorporate certified water-saving fixtures in accordance with campus construction standards.
With these measures, 100% of toilets, handicapped toilets, and wastafels on campus have been equipped with water-efficient devices. To ensure long-term effectiveness, all water-efficient appliances are included in routine inspection and preventive maintenance programs conducted by the Office of General Affairs. The replacement and upgrading of conventional fixtures are continuously implemented during campus renovation projects. This initiative supports SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by reducing potable water consumption and promoting sustainable resource management.
