Description:
National Chiayi University (NCYU) has implemented a comprehensive set of initiatives to reduce private vehicle use and promote sustainable transportation across its four campuses. Rather than relying on a single measure, the university integrates transportation management, zero-emission mobility, public transportation, and shared transportation services to provide convenient, low-carbon alternatives for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Key initiatives include free university shuttle services, electric shuttle vehicles, shared bicycles (YouBike), electric vehicle and electric motorcycle charging facilities, ride-sharing and shared taxi programs, and parking management policies that discourage unnecessary private vehicle use. Bicycle-friendly facilities, including bicycle repair stations and tire-pumping stations, together with pedestrian-friendly campus improvements, further encourage active transportation. In addition, NCYU collaborates with neighboring universities to coordinate shared taxi services to the Taiwan High Speed Rail Station, reducing single-occupancy vehicle trips and improving regional transportation connectivity.
These integrated initiatives have significantly reduced dependence on private vehicles while improving the accessibility, convenience, and sustainability of campus transportation. Through continuous investment in sustainable mobility and low-carbon transportation infrastructure, NCYU has established a comprehensive transportation system that supports SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting zero-emission transportation, and encouraging environmentally responsible travel behavior.
