(Still Walking, 2008)
Do parents and children really understand each other?
Following A Sun (陽光普照), the second film in our Bridging Generations Film Festival is Hirokazu Kore-eda's acclaimed 2008 masterpiece, Still Walking (横山家の味; 歩いても 歩いても; 步履不停).
There are no dramatic twists or spectacular events. Instead, the film follows an ordinary family during their annual reunion—sharing meals, preparing food, chatting, offering prayers, and taking a walk together. Through these quiet moments, Kore-eda gently reveals the unspoken emotions, expectations, gratitude, disappointments, and enduring love that shape family relationships across generations.
Perhaps we will recognize our own parents in one of the characters. Perhaps we will recognize ourselves.
Still Walking reminds us that families are often remembered not because of life's extraordinary moments, but because of the ordinary days that quietly become lifelong memories.
Rather than rushing to analyze the film, we invite you simply to experience it. There are no standard answers—only an opportunity to reflect on our own families and the moments that have shaped us.
If the film leaves you wanting to continue the conversation, perhaps it begins quietly—with yourself, with a friend, or with your family on the way home. With curiosity, empathy, and respect, we hope this film becomes another bridge between generations.
Bridging Generations
(Still Walking,2008)
