Your General Education ePortfolio tells your SLCC learning story. Your ePortfolio enables you to introduce yourself to your professors and classmates, showcase your best work, and reflect on how the courses connect to your life, goals, community, and learning outside of the classroom.
Your ePortfolio allows you to showcase, in your style and design, your time at SLCC, but above all, who you are.
I've had a mix of feelings during the process of creating my portfolio, and I consider each of those feelings special. My portfolio has gone through so many changes throughout its existence, and I'm sure there will probably be more to come.
I never thought how difficult it would be to try to present different moments of my life in a digital medium. I have spent long hours designing and redesigning each space of this portfolio, and as I mentioned before, I had a mixture of feelings throughout the process.
There have been many times when I have felt happy when I finished a page of my portfolio, but on other days I felt that it was not well done and that it needed something more to make it "perfect." It's strange to look back and think about the different versions of this portfolio, but now I try to remember them for what they were. I was often nervous because I wanted it to look great because "What would the person who sees this portfolio think? Will they notice the poor design? Will they find the words I wrote strange?", among other questions.
I have learned so much throughout my ePortfolio creation process. I learned that there is no right or "perfect" way to do it, and that I shouldn't base the design on what people would think of it. I learned that it was important to stay true to my style and not worry if someone would find it strange.
Being able to carry out the creation process allowed me to get to know myself better and to reflect on all the things I did in school. It allowed me to be able to reflect my essence in my writing, to develop critical thinking, to be able to express my thoughts, and to appreciate the moments I spent studying the career I love and at a school I appreciate.
I used to think that these types of jobs were not important, let alone difficult, but now I realize how wrong I was. I am very grateful to have learned the process of this project, and that it has allowed me to show people a part of myself and my journey in higher education. Without a doubt, the ePortfolio plays a very important role during our training as professionals, and it is worth every second that one invests in the process of it.
