Solo - Gaming Joystick & Thigh Strap System
I designed and built a prototype for an accessible gaming controller to address the lack of affordable options for people with limited mobility in one hand. The goal was to create a device that made ‘couch’ co-op gaming (think Mario Kart or Party Animals) more inclusive while offering an ergonomic design to prevent repetitive strain injuries common with traditional setups like a mouse and keyboard.
The controller features an innovative thigh strap design for stability and ease of use, ensuring a comfortable and intuitive gaming experience. I used tools like OnShape, Blender, and Cura for the design and 3D printing, along with Autodesk Sketchbook for concept sketches. I also explored PCB design with EasyEDA and gained hands-on experience with power tools, a laser cutter, and LightBurn software. Through this project I worked with diverse materials like textiles, polymers, and acrylic sheets.
PCB Exploration
Experimented with the process of making a single-sided presensitized PCB. I used EasyEDA to create the PCB schematic, simulated in TinkerCAD and finally soldered the components on.
