Educational Tool - DC Motor
I designed and built a 3-pole DC motor with a classmate to make learning about electromagnetism and the motor effect more engaging for IGCSE students. Using OnShape for the CAD design and Cura for slicing, we created custom 3D-printable parts that make the motor easy to assemble—perfect for schools and students.
The motor’s armature was made with copper wire, copper tubing was used for the commutators, and high-gauge wires were stripped down to make brushes. I used basic workshop tools like a bandsaw, hacksaw, laser cutter and soldering iron to put everything together. A professor from the University of Bath also provided some feedback on our first design!
To test it out, we held a demo session in a science classroom, showing how it all works and making the concepts come to life.
