The 30th Annual North American Dendroecological Fieldweek (NADEF) will be held at the A.L. Mickelson Field Station near Cody, WY. The fieldweek will run 19–28 July 2020 and registration fees will be $1200 for Student TRS Members ($1300 for Students) and $1400 for Professional TRS Members ($1500 for Professionals). Students should send a photocopy of their student ID with their registration. Your registration fee includes room and board for the entire week. Registration fees are due by May 30, 2020.

Timing

The first event on July 19th is dinner around 6pm, followed by introductions by all of the participants, and an introductory lecture. Please arrange to arrive at the Cody Airport by 4pm on July 19th so that we can get you out to the field station in time for the first events. Also, please arrange to fly out from Cody after 10am on July 28th so that we have time to get you down to the airport without having to leave the field station before 7am.

Deliverables

Each group will develop and present a PowerPoint presentation to all of the fieldweek participants, starting at 1pm on July 28th. These presentations will subsequently be posted on the NADEF website. Each group will also produce a 5-page written report that will be compiled into the final report for the funding agencies, the field station, and the participants.

Accommodations

The lodge is a two-story building with two large meeting rooms on the upper floor. Both have natural light, and a brick fireplace is at the end of the south room on the lower floor. Picnic tables are arranged on an open, roofed deck, accessible to both meeting rooms on the upper floor. Generally, meals are served cafeteria style in the dining room, located on the lower floor of the lodge. Dormitory-style, warm showers are also available on the lower floor of the lodge. Both men's and women's facilities have three shower stalls and three countertop sinks each. Individuals are responsible for their own towels and personal toiletry items. There are three cabin buildings, each a quadplex, providing 12 dwelling units with accommodation for 72 people. Units are heated by electric baseboard and sleep six. Sleeping arrangements consist of three bunk beds. Other furnishings include a table and four chairs, a dresser and a lamp. Guests are encouraged to bring sleeping bags. Cooking is not permitted in cabins, nor are pets.

Driving: Northwest College's A.L. Mickelson Field Station is located on Dead Indian Hill in the Absaroka Mountains, just off the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway. It is only a few miles from the spectacular Sunlight Basin, 55 miles from the northeast gate of Yellowstone National Park, 50 miles from the Northwest College campus, and 30 miles from Cody, WY.

Flying: Participant should fly Delta or United into the Yellowstone Regional Airport (COD, http://flyyra.com/) which is a 40 mile drive to the station. We will have shuttle buses to bring you from the airport on July 19th and for the return trip on July 28th. Please make flight plans to arrive before 4pm on July 19th and to leave after 10am on July 28th from the Yellowstone Regional Airport in Cody Wyoming.

This year's NADEF is funded in part by the National Science Foundation (Award #BCS-1759694). The grant supports opportunities for Undergraduate Scholarships that cover the cost of registration and Graduate Fellowships (up to $3000 awarded after the workshop) that support the presentation and publication of NADEF research. If you are interested in these opportunities, please contact Dr. Margot Kaye with a letter of application stating your interest and how the opportunity would benefit you and your career goals. For the graduate fellowship, you should also state your ability to complete the fellowship and provide a letter of support from your adviser. Dr. Kaye can provide more information about expectations via email.
