Past Fieldweeks

30 years of education and science

The North American Dendroecological Fieldweek (NADEF) was started in 1990 by Dr. Paul J. Krusic. Until 2002, NADEF was organized by Dr. Peter M. Brown, after which the torch was passed to Dr. Jim Speer. Jim served as the primary organizer of NADEF from 2003 until handing it over after the 2022 event to the collective organizers Drs. Stockton Maxwell, Maegen Rochner, Karen King, and Grant Harley. The new group of organizers have teamed up with the Tree-Ring Society to operate the newly-named Dendrochronology Field School (DFS) as a not-for-profit educational event. Since the inception of NADEF in 1990, the fieldweek has involved over 1,300 individuals. Over 400 person-hours go into each project during the fieldweek. We invite you to journey through the storied history of NADEF and visit the archived pages of each year's event since 1990, where you'll find details of each fieldweek location, and presentations and papers generated by each group.Â
