The “Supper at Emmaus” is a painting by Caravaggio, commissioned by Ciriaco Mattei. It represents an episode of Luca’s Gospel (24:13-32). Jesus is in the middle of the picture, among the two astonished disciples (on the left hand side Cleofa and on the right hand side another disciple) and the host, on the left hand side of the picture. They recognize risen Jesus while he is blessing the bread. On the table there is a still life, full of symbols. The colors and the light induce the viewer to look towards all the highlights of the painting. The painting is very expressive and it makes the viewer feel the same astonishment as the disciples
