In Belarus, football is the most popular sport, closely followed by ice hockey. Dinamo Minsk was once one of the power in Soviet Union.

In 2014, for the first time, Minsk took part in the IIHF (Ice Hockey World Championship).

Ruslan Salei is one of the best players in Belarus hockey. He played 917 games in the strongest league in the world.

Athletics

Athletics is a collection of sporting events that involve competetive running, jumping, throwing, walking.  Athletics is one of the first event contested in the ancient  Olympic Games.

Ivan Tsikhan is a two-time world champion and Olympic medalist of hammer thrower.

Yulia Nesterenko is a Belarusian sprinter. She won the women's 100 meters sprint in Olympic Games 2004 in Athens.

Artistic gymnastics

Not so long ago the Belarusian school of artistic gymnastics (as part of Soviet gymnastics) was one of the strongest in the world. Olga Korbut (born 16 May 1955) is a greatest Belarusian gymnast. Nicknamed the "Sparrow from Minsk", she won four gold medals and two silver medals at the Summer Olympic Games, in 1972 and 1976.

Tennis

Belarus has produced some very talented tennis players over the years, including both men and women.

Maxim Mirnyi nicknamed "The Beast" for his size and fearless play, is Vice President of Belarus Tennis Federation. At the 2012 Summer, Mirnyi carried the flag of Belarus at the Opening Ceremony on 27 July 2012, and won the Gold medal in the Mixed Doubles with Victoria Azarenka. She is a Belarusian tennis player and Olympic gold medalist. She is also the first Belarusian woman to win a Grand Slam singles title. 

Aryna Sobolenko Belarusian professional tennis player. She has been ranked as high as world No. 2 in singles and world No. 1 in doubles by the Women's Tennis Association. Sabalenka has won one major singles title, at the 2023 Australian Open.

Biathlon

Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. The sport has its origins in an exercise for Norwegian soldiers. 

Darya Domracheva is rightly called the queen of biathlon in Belarus. She is a three-time winner of the Olympic Games, two-time world champion, winner of several World Cups, Honored Master of Sport and the Hero of Belarus.
