Accommodations

To note: the U.S. State Department does not allow U.S. citizens and those under U.S. jurisdiction to stay at state-run hotels. As there are no privately owned hotels in Cuba, the only option for U.S. travelers is to stay at a family owned and run casa particular (bed and breakfast). As Cuba has been transitioning from a state-run economy to one that is both state and privately owned, the bed and breakfast business is one of the most successful private businesses blossoming in Cuba. We have found that the quality of service and lodging experience is far better at casas particulares than at hotels.  

In Havana delegation members will stay in a residence called Casa Vera which is run by a Cuban family. This allows the entire group to stay together in one place and allows us to standardize your lodging experience.

• Your accommodations include breakfast and boiled/filtered drinking water.

• Where noted in the itinerary lunches and dinners are also served at Casa Vera.

• All lodging for this program is assigned as double rooms, one minor and one chaperone per room.

• Each bedroom has its own air conditioner. 

• All bathrooms have modern showers with hot and cold water.

• The common areas are partially open colonial patios, so these do not have A/C.

• Cuban style WIFI is avaiable during select time slots throughout the day at Casa Vera.

• Although there is laundry service available it is used primarily for guest bedding and towels. Nonetheless, one load of laundry cleaning is included with your stay.

• Casa Vera can host up to 50 people at one time. It has a thirteen person highly trained staff that focuses on superior quality of cleanliness and hygiene. Casa Vera hosts student groups from various US universities and schools with experience in the unique necesities of American travelers. 

• Son Dos Alas works with Casa Vera's staff to annually train and update health, safety, and security protocols. 

• All meals prepared at Casa Vera can be customized for allergies and dietary needs. 

• Meals are served family style to offer vegetarian options alongside non-vegetarian plates with security protocols for non-cross-contamination.

• Delegation leadership can stay in a nearby independent apartment to provide greater privacy without losing the benefits of Casa Vera's accommodations.
