For Staff
Spartan Staff, we know you are wonderful role models for our kids. How would you like to do even more, while also benefitting yourself? Establish a fun, healthy, carbon-free commute routine -- and let your students know about it! When it comes to influencing teens, actions speak louder than words. Read on for info and inspiration.
Bike
A new year is a great opportunity to:
- dust off that bike you've had since you were in high school yourself
- cancel your expensive gym membership
- leave that gas-guzzling, money-eating hunk of metal at home
- bask in the fresh air
- admire the trees and flowers you never noticed before
- and feel like you're 18 again!
If you need any help, advice or encouragement to get started bike commuting, or just want to hear from another staff member what it's like, you can ask MVHS's new Staff Bike Ambassador, Biology teacher Lyuda Shemyakina.
Transit
Bus, BART, Caltrain, Light Rail… there are so many options that are better than driving. Wouldn't you rather relax with a good book or play games on your phone instead of staring at cars and traffic lights every morning and afternoon?
Are you interested in a free shuttle from the Mountain View Transit Center to MVHS? Tell Vice Principal Teri Faught, who is working on this possibility.
Plus: you can combine transit with biking and get the benefits of both!

Carpool
Imagine sitting back and enjoying a cup of coffee while your carpool partner drives. Or finish grading those quizzes, read a magazine, do your nails…
If you carpool with just one other person, you can reclaim half your commute time for yourself!
-- Save money and wear and tear on your car
-- Get to know other staff members that you wouldn't be able to otherwise
-- You can park in one of the reserved carpool spaces in the back parking lot
Ms. Faught has made a carpool partner finder for staff. Ask her for the link.
Note you can carpool not just with someone who lives near you, but also someone who lives on the way to school for you.
