I have only seen two British crime shows but they are similar. I have seen Broadchurch and now, Marcella, both on Netflix.
Both take place in a dreary and ominous Britian. I haven't spent much time in the UK but I assume that's their usual weather. Both shows have main characters who aren't good looking in the traditional sense.
Both shows spend just as much time on the case as the investigator's private lives. Their rapidly deteriorating mental health problems start creeping into the investigation of their
Both involve crimes involving children. I wonder if this is a recurring theme in British crime shows. I think when crime shows are about children, they're so much more dark.
There are aspects of the show that I enjoy but I probably will not be finishing season 2. Marcella herself is uninteresting. The dynamic between her, her husband, and family is depressing and hopeless. I understand that crime shows are supposed to be depressing, but I feel like this show is only incessant heartbreak.
The crime in season 1 was difficult to follow because I felt like three of the characters looked alike and it was difficult to figure out who was who.
