The Murambi Orphanage Primary School is a pending project of the MYHO. We are seeking major donations to make this needed resource a reality for the many children in need in our region. Please view our Project Proposal for more information.
OPENING UP OF A NEW SCHOOL AT MURAMBI TOWN
Kasese district where we are as well as the larger area in Uganda and nearby Congo have suffered political instability and outright war, along with resulting poverty and lack of opportunities. Our region is also characterized by Rwenzori Mountain and surrounding lowlands which suffer flooding, loss of property, and loss of life. Children suffer the most with lack of food, shelter, and even family. Educational opportunities are limited when all students are walking to school, with only 3 schools within 5km, and those are primary schools only.
Many of us have come together as part of the Murambi Youth Humanist Organization to address these problems. We have registered over 300 children in need. This is in a small town of 5000 in Murambi and 30,000 in the Kahokya sub-county where others will be in need. We sorely lack the resources to support them, but we are committed to making their situation better. In a meeting on Feb 6, 2024, we proposed a new school:
MURAMBI ORPHANAGE PRIMARY SCHOOL
The new school will offer education to children aged 3 to 15. We will build the school on humanist values with a scholastic standard based on the Uganda Primary education standards. We will add special programs for work skills, including computer skills, to inspire and empower our students to achieve their goals in life. We will focus on day classes but also have boarding for orphans so they have not just education but shelter, food, and a new family.
Our Vision is to see Murambi youth growing up inspired and empowered to achieve their goals in life with lasting friendships.
Our Mission is to teach youth in Murambi and surrounding areas practical life skills, appreciation for each other, and humanist values including environmental conservation.
Our Objectives
· To give the children basic primary education.
· To give employment opportunities to people in kahokya in general.
· To give the pupils in our school a secular way of looking at things based on application of Humanist values, ethics and principles.
· To promote children to the strong love of being practical and taking full love in science-based subjects.
· To empower the youth with life skills because teaching a career to local citizens will nourish and promote responsible parenting.
· To keep children busy in school and away from the dangerous streets of Murambi by providing a place to work and learn which surely prevents drug and alcohol use.
Honored Donors
Donors giving at least $250 will be honored with their name on a plaque in the entryway to the school. Separate sections will honor those giving at least $1,000 or $5,000. Subject to project leadership approval, donors giving at least $10,000 will be offered naming rights to a classroom. A picture and biography in the classroom can honor a person of the donor’s choice. The school can be named for a donation of at least $30,000, subject to Project Leadership approval and other potential donations. Project leaders would be excited to honor major donors in special ways.
How To Give
