The teaching practicum conducted at the University of Northern Philippines Laboratory School provided valuable experiences in developing my competencies as a future teacher, particularly in the field of Physical Education. Through various activities such as classroom observation, lesson plan development, and direct teaching practice, I gained a deeper understanding of the educational system, instructional strategies, and the diverse characteristics of students in different learning environments.
The opportunity to teach sports lessons, conduct field-based learning activities, and receive guidance from cooperating teachers contributed significantly to the improvement of my pedagogical skills, classroom management, and communication abilities. Moreover, interactions with both students and teachers offered meaningful insights into the importance of implementing active, well-structured, and student-centered learning approaches.
Based on this experience, several suggestions can be proposed for the future development of the program. First, student teachers are encouraged to prepare themselves thoroughly before beginning their teaching practice, particularly in terms of mastering the subject matter, preparing effective lesson plans, and improving English communication skills. Second, strong collaboration between student teachers and cooperating teachers should be maintained to ensure that guidance, feedback, and evaluation processes can be carried out effectively. Third, schools are encouraged to continue improving educational facilities and diversifying teaching methods in order to create more engaging and effective learning experiences for students.
With strong collaboration among universities, schools, and student teachers, it is expected that this teaching practicum program will continue to contribute positively to the development of future educators.
