Before Unit:
Criteria and Goal Setting "engages them [students] in instruction and the learning process by creating clear expectations. In order to be successful, students need to understand and know the learning target/goal and the criteria for reaching it" (Garrison). This tool is used to give students a glimpse of what they will be learning and the expectations of the teacher for the unit/chapter. I will use this before the start of each new unit to help my students be prepared and understand what they are go to be studying and what they are expected to complete by the end of the unit. This can be used to support blended learning by allowing teachers to make a presentation of the chapter and notes of the expectations. This can be sued both face-to-face and online.
During Unit:
Observations "assist teachers in gathering evidence of student learning to inform instructional planning. This evidence can be recorded and used as feedback for students about their learning" (Garrison). The main purpose of this assessment/tool is to see where students are struggling and what they are actually getting from the lecture. I will use tool to get an understanding of what what students need more clarification on and what they are learning/understand from the lessons. This tool can also be used face-to-face or online by allowing teachers to write down data of the observations in a file or on a piece of paper.
End of Unit:
End of Unit/chapter test are regular test that are taken at the end of each new unit/chapter. The purpose of this assessment is to recall everything that was taught/learned throughout the unit and for teachers to get an understanding of what the students learned. This can be used to support blended learning by being able to be online or face-to-face with a online test or regular in class paper test.
