MSU Fridays are large-scale preview days which occur multiple times in the Fall and Spring semesters. We will typically see anywhere from 600 to 1,200 visitors on campus those days. MSU Fridays are primarily organized by the Associate Director of New Student Programs and Program Coordinators. These days are very busy and Admissions Counselors are expected to be ready and available to help visitors throughout the majority of the day.
MSU Friday is an all-day event, with programming occurring from 8am-4:30pm. Admissions Counselors are typically expected to work from 7am-5pm on MSU Fridays and receive a non-traditional lunch hour (you are compensated via overtime pay). You are expected to wear your "best blue and gold" on MSU Fridays. This typically means lean on the business professional side rather than business casual, if you have anything navy or gold colored, wear it! Jeans are not allowed on MSU Fridays.
The Associate Director of New Student Programs is in touch with all staff prior to each MSU Friday to relay what each staff member is responsible for during the day. The schedule will be sent to staff via email and it is called a highlight sheet (Example 1a-e). For Admissions Counselors, this can include campus tours, MSU Basics presentations, manning the Information Table, greeting visitors, attending the Financial Aid presentation and more. If you have any questions about a presentation or about the schedule in general, always ask Anders, another Admissions Counselor or the Associate Director of New Student Programs.
Monitor: Monitoring sessions at an MSU Friday is a fairly easy task. You make sure the presenters have everything they need, and all technology is working. Once they start the presentation, you are free to leave. If you have issues, contact the orientation team for guidance on pivoting.
Present: More often than not at MSU Friday, presenting for a rep means giving MSU basics. This presentation is a condensed version of our traditional presentation because we give it in 20-30 minutes. You also may be asked to present a transfer session or financing your education. To see what a condensed presentation looks like follow this path. The transfer info presentation can be accessed following this path: S:\Rep Manual\Updated Rep Manual\ Transfer Student Presentation
Direct: If you are assigned directing traffic this means you are standing in a specific area helping attendees navigate the SUB and making sure they get to the right session.
Facilite: Typically, this task is for student lead sessions such as; the student panel, FSL, etc. You are there to keep the conversation flowing, and make sure the students give appropriate responses. You are also there to ensure that no one is spending too much time on one question.
Flip: This task takes place in the ballrooms, and you are moving the walls around to create either one big open space, or several smaller spaces.
Info Table: This is where you are at the info table answering questions of parents and students.
