3rd Grade Music

Welcome to 3rd Grade Music!

In 3rd grade music, we have a heavy focus on music theory and learning to play an instrument: the recorder! Seems like a right of passage, doesn't it? Through Term 1 and part of Term 2, we review rhythms and practice naming notes on the Treble Clef staff. As Term 2 progresses and into Term 3, we put those skills into practice by learning to play the recorder, both individually and as a large group.

Steps to Learning a New Recorder Song:

1. Name the notes out loud (example: G, G, G, D, E, E, D...)
2. Clap the rhythms
3. Clap the rhythms while speaking the note names out loud
4. Practice the fingerings on the recorder WITHOUT blowing into it. Make sure to speak the note names out loud at the same time!
5. Play the song! First, practice small sections of the song, then add more until you can play the whole song!
6. Once you're confident in the song, practice with the song track (the blue button above that says "Old MacDonald.")
