Students should feel like the classroom belongs to them as much as it does to me. One of the ways I build their feelings of ownership is to provide opportunities to contribute to its success through classroom jobs. Every job I create (they usually change each year!) is meaningful and students can see and feel the impact they have by completing the tasks. These jobs are mostly completed at the end of our daily schedule, but some require their help throughout the day. Students stick with a job for a week and then jobs are rotated. They'll typically have a chance to complete each job three times. Examples of our job cards are below:
