Look below for the schedule and a brief description of the activities.
A 'soft start' refers to a routine that helps students settle into class before beginning work. It serves as a bridge between the rush and whirlwind of their morning to the academic demands of the school day. In my classroom, soft start bins are individual, STEM-based activities students utilize for a period of 10-15 minutes while sitting at their desk and listening to calm music. Students are asked to stick with the same activity for the duration of the soft start in order to build endurance, patience, and creativity.
Students access Seesaw in order to answer a question each morning. Daily questions follow a pattern each week and ask students to utilize a variety of skills and tools. They can vary from fun and silly to informative and thought-provoking. This is the perfect opportunity for students to practice following multi-step directions while using the technological supports available to them and seeing a task to completion within a set time. Check out your students' responses on Seesaw by joining at the link provided.

When time permits, we complete Exit Tickets at the end of the day in order to reinforce learned skills in a fun, creative way. Similar to Daily Questions, these allos students the opportunity to follow multiple step directions while completing tasks in a given time period.
Students complete mazes, coloring sheets, and connect the dots. Super simple because it's Monday and we need the day to end a little gentler, right?
Students complete top ten lists related to a given topic. I really like the kids to write from memory/independently as much as possible.
Student look up a word in order to write the definition and see if the word applies to them. Sometimes we switch this up and do a Wordle Wednesday!
Students complete an activity that asks them to see past their first impression - This allows them to change an abstract idea into a detailed drawing.
Students are given a multilayered visual support tool to help them finish 5-6 expected tasks from the week in order to access free choice.
