I use a whole class reinforcement system called Teacher Vs. Student. Students are constantly working to earn points in order to beat me. Both teacher and students points can be earned based on the actions of the group or an individual.
STUDENTS can earn points by meeting behavior expectations, demonstrating academic skills, being helpful or kind, turning in paperwork, and more! When students earn 10 points they get a prize. Each time they earn 10 points, they get to fill a box on the big prize tracker. Every 100 points means a higher reinforcement. Students brainstormed their reward menus for each type of prize. You can see those below.
The TEACHER earns points when unexpected or poor choices are being made. If the teacher earns ten points, students will participate in a lesson and activity targeted the main behavior concern. For example, if students are struggling with tattling, we will work on a lesson called In or Out - are you getting your friends IN trouble or OUT of danger? A note is sent home to parents along with the completed activity to let them know what we had to work on.
Should the class or an indivudal struggle with consistent behavior, I will implement a behavior intervention called Self & Match. This is a fantastic tool used to increase self-regualtion through a collaborative approach between the student and teacher. The best part of this tool is how it can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each student. You can discover more about the program below:
