The classroom rules are the first section of my matrix. These classroom rules will apply to every student in every class of mine. These rules are non-negotiable. However, each class will establish a reward (decided as a whole class) that they may receive at the end of each quarter for following these classroom rules. Students are also encouraged to add rules or speak out in any way regarding their thoughts about these norms. I believe that "Procedures are considered fair when those affected have an opportunity to express their views about rules and decisions before they are made, and the decision-maker considers their views," (Schimmel 2003). These rules help ensure our class mission is maintained and achieved and also create a supportive learning environment for every student; it is the way that we are able to explore literature without fear.
IF YOU EXPECT IT, TEACH IT.
