Classroom Layout
The SmartBoard is located at the front of the room and is where direct instruction will be given. Every class will have a slideshow as a visual aid.
The comfort zone is at the back of the classroom and is available to exceptional students who follow our class norms. Students can do independent work here: reading, homework, and in-class work. This area will also have behavior regulation resources for students to use at any time they may need.
My desk is at the back of the classroom and is situated where I have ample vision of every corner of the classroom. Students will check out books from the Student Library and electronic chargers at my desk; otherwise, they are not permitted behind my desk.
The student library is a resource I have accumulated for students. These books are my books that I am willing to let students borrow. It is expected that students check every book out through me and return them before the end of each quarter. Students can also use these books during independent reading time and other structured free time.
This area has pencils, paper, scissors, markers, highlighters, a pencil sharpener, and other required materials for students will need to succeed during my class. This is completely open to students to use as a resource as they need. This works under an "honor-code" system, so it is expected that after students take what they need, they will return it for other students who will need it in the future.
Six table groups fill up the rest of the classroom. These table groups are faced toward the SmartBoard. Seats will be assigned by me and will be changed every quarter. Students may earn free seating as a reward for exceptional classroom behavior.
