Mission Statement

In our classroom, we will use literature to welcome all , pursue kindness in all we do, and tackle the journey of learning so that we evolve into critical thinkers regarding what it means to be humans in this world.

Brief Description

6th Grade English Language Arts Class.

In my classes, I have emerging young adults who come from various backgrounds and diverse experiences. This school is located in the rural school district WELD RE - 5J, so many of my students bring experience from small towns, agricultural communities, or even homeschooling. This school's data typically performs below state expectancy. Thus, my classroom will give students the opportunity to frequently practice reading and writing fluency.

Intro to my Instruction

In 6th grade, it is essential to practice the skills required to start emerging into serious and competitive learners.

My classroom will address each of the Colorado Academic Standards:

Oral Expression and Listening
Reading and Comprehension
Writing Composition
Research and Inquiry

To best achieve these standards, students will interact with a variety of literary works such as novels, short stories, poetry, informational texts, and short films.

Along with Academic Standards, your students will also meet the Social and Emotional Standards including:

Self Awareness
Self Management
Interpersonal Relationship Skills
Decision Making Skills

Each of these standards will be taught through a variety of topics:

Bullying / Anti-Bullying
Transitions of Life
Democracy
Race and Racism
Family Dynamics
